The challenge
Dispatch planning extended well beyond the morning schedule. New orders, delays, and changing driver availability meant teams had to continually reassess who could take on more work and which deliveries needed attention first.
Dispatchers had to balance delivery windows, vehicle capacity, remaining shift time, and travel between stops. Managing those decisions manually made it difficult to use available capacity effectively and identify delivery risks early enough to respond.
The data foundation
An effective plan needed to reflect both customer commitments and what the fleet could realistically deliver. That required bringing demand, capacity, and route progress together
Delivery orders
Locations, promised windows, urgency, and load requirements informed prioritization.
Driver and vehicle availability
Shift limits, vehicle capacity, and existing assignments defined available resources.
Route progress
Updated driver locations and delivery statuses showed how the day was unfolding.
Operating history
Actual travel and stop times helped refine estimates for future plans.
What we built
A routing intelligence solution that evaluates delivery priorities, recommends assignments, and adapts the remaining plan as conditions change
- 01
Prioritize
Incoming deliveries are ranked by urgency, promised delivery window, location, and estimated service time, helping dispatchers identify what needs attention first.
- 02
Assign
The solution recommends drivers based on proximity, existing stops, vehicle capacity, and remaining shift time. Dispatchers review recommendations and approve assignments.
- 03
Adapt
As new orders, delays, and driver availability affect the plan, the solution recommends changes to remaining stops and assignments. At-risk deliveries are flagged so dispatchers can intervene.
Actual travel and stop times inform future planning estimates, while dispatcher overrides are captured for review and refinement of assignment rules.
The outcome
A connected operational view helps dispatchers assess incoming demand alongside available fleet capacity and delivery commitments.
Assignment recommendations make it easier to identify drivers with room in their routes. Updated arrival estimates and risk flags help teams recognize when a delivery needs intervention, while replanning supports adjustments to the remaining work.
The operating model combines ongoing optimization with dispatcher oversight, helping teams respond to changing conditions throughout the day.
